This film is making much news as of late. As a matter of personal policy, I don't go to theatres to view a film that deals with such topics. I often am driven mad by false pretense and inaccurate plot lines to the point of venting verbally. I have been asked to leave several establishments over the years. At home, I can judge for myself the merits of such artistic endeavors. There are great classics in the paranormal genre.
This new film, Paranormal Activity, has caught the attention of many. I have heard from colleagues in the field that the film is well worth the exorbanent price of admission. There is also a rumor swirling through the ghost hunting community that some of the scenes might actually be real. That prospect, no matter how suspect, is intriguing.
I might see this film soon. I shall let you know.

ReplyDeleteI admit that I listen to people I know first and they all agreed that it was terribly NOT scary. I think it would have been a fantastic idea if they'd had consultants, people who had regular haunting activity and know what it's like. I fear that the film was made from the perspective of what people think hauntings should be and not what they are. (sigh). Well, I'll wait for it to come to DVD. It's no worth risking H1N1 for this one. Some movies have to be seen on big screen, others viewed in private. I'd be curious to find out the movies you find to be worthy. I adore "The Haunting" (1963), "The Changeling," and "Legend of Hell House." Classics.
I, too, prefer the original "The Haunting" and "The Changeling". Of course, there are two classic most do not think of when it comes to ghosts on film: A Christmas Carol and Hamlet.
ReplyDeleteAlso: The Uninvited (1944) and I did like some aspects of "Ghost Story", but not the film as a whole.
Of more recent films, I will say that I enjoyed "The Others".

ReplyDeleteThe misspelt word that you used, exorbanent, to denote something overpriced, should actually have been the word exorbitant. Also, the 1999 film, The Sixth Sense was quite a good ghost story, albeit fiction, as was the 2007 Spanish language film with English subtitles, The Orphanage.
